AdBlue® is a high-purity, aqueous urea solution (32.5% high-purity urea + 67.5% deionized water), a dedicated reducing agent for diesel vehicles equipped with SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) emission control systems. It is a colorless, odorless, non-toxic liquid that is non-flammable and non-explosive, compliant with international standards such as ISO 22241 and DIN 70070, designed to reduce harmful nitrogen oxide (NOₓ) emissions from diesel engines and help vehicles meet strict emission regulations (e.g., Euro IV, Euro V, Euro VI, China IV/V/VI).

Core Working Principle

When diesel vehicle exhaust passes through the SCR catalytic converter, AdBlue is injected into the exhaust stream at a precise ratio. It reacts with high-temperature exhaust to produce ammonia (NH₃), which then undergoes a catalytic reaction with nitrogen oxides in the exhaust, converting the toxic NOₓ into harmless nitrogen (N₂) and water vapor (H₂O), which are released into the atmosphere—achieving efficient emission reduction without affecting engine performance or fuel efficiency.

  1. Vehicle Mounting: Equipped on all modern diesel vehicles (passenger cars, commercial vehicles, trucks, buses, construction machinery) with SCR systems; the AdBlue tank is independent of the diesel tank, with a dedicated blue filler cap/neck for easy identification and refilling.
  2. Consumption: Average consumption is 3-5% of diesel fuel consumption (varies by engine type, vehicle load and driving conditions).
  3. Refilling Channels: Available at gas stations (dedicated dispensers), auto parts stores, vehicle service centers and online channels; small portable canisters (5L/10L) for emergency refills, large bulk refueling for commercial fleets.
  4. System Reminder: The vehicle’s on-board computer monitors AdBlue levels in real time; a warning light on the dashboard alerts the driver to refill when the level is low—insufficient AdBlue will trigger the vehicle to limit power or fail to start (per emission regulation requirements).

Storage & Handling Notes

  • Store in a sealed, clean container (avoid contact with metal impurities) at 0℃ to 25℃; shelf life is 12 months under standard conditions, 6 months if stored above 30℃.
  • Avoid freezing (AdBlue freezes at -11℃); vehicle-mounted AdBlue tanks are equipped with heating systems to ensure normal use in low temperatures.
  • Do not mix with diesel, gasoline, oil or other liquids—this will damage the SCR system and cause emission failure.
